TVXQ Shares Thoughts On Their Newest Solo Tracks And Each Other’s Homes

TVXQ appeared on SBS PowerFM’s “2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show” to promote their latest music.

On March 29 broadcast of the radio program, TVXQ introduced their eighth album “New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love.” Yunho began, “From the first intro to the last track, we tried to tell a story. We tried to make [the album] like a magazine and incorporated TVXQ’s values.”

The group likened the wide variety of information available in a magazine to TVXQ’s diverse appeals. On filling their album with so much new content, Yunho said, “It means that instead of saving anything for ourselves, we wanted to repay the fans.” Changmin joked, “I would like it if there was something left for us to save.” Continue reading

TVXQ Returns From Hiatus With New Sound On ‘New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love’ Album

TVXQ! are officially back in the K-pop game.

Three years since releasing Rise As God, the duo returned on Thursday (March 28), with a new beginning. Their first album since the pair returned from serving in South Korea’s military, New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love delivers up the smoothest, most grown-up TVXQ! yet. Fronted by the jazzy “The Chance of Love,” TVXQ!’s most maturely-styled singled to date, the 11-track album marks the iconic boy band’s official return to the K-pop scene following a quick re-introduction last year.

Like past singles “Something” and “Spellbound,” “The Chance of Love,” or “Fate” as it’s called in Korean, brings in swing-inspired instrumentals to TVXQ!’s sound. Splicing the swaying melody with scratchy synths and pulsating, snapping beats, the pair’s vocals blend harmoniously through the bouncing chorus, “ooh-oohs” and all.

[W Magazine] 180331 TVXQ, the Godfathers of K-Pop, on Returning After a Three-Year Break With a New Album, a New Look, and New Instagram Accounts

TVXQ, the Godfathers of K-Pop, on Returning After a Three-Year Break With a New Album, a New Look, and New Instagram Accounts

On a recent Tuesday afternoon in Seoul, South Korea, a chorus of flashbulbs began to go off in a packed auditorium in the Zaha Hadid–designed Dongdaemun Design Plaza, where the men’s wear brand Caruso was slated to present its fall 2018 collection as part of Seoul Fashion Week. The target of the cluster of photographers gathering at the front row: Shim “Max” Changmin and Jung “U-Know” Yunho, the musician duo who comprise the group TVXQ—which, after it was conjured into being 15 years ago by S.M. Entertainment, the label behind Girls’ GenerationShinee, f(x), and Red Velvet, was quickly swept into the upper reaches of K-pop stardom. (TVXQ, which stands for Tong Vfang Xien Qi, roughly translates to “rising gods of the east”; in Japan, where they are nearly as famous as they are at home, they record as Tohoshinki.)

On the evening of the Caruso show, three years had passed since TVXQ’s previous studio album, 2015’s Rise As God, was released. Just a week after the show, they were slated to release their ninth full-length effort, New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love. Though it’s far from a debut, New Chapter #1 is, in some ways, exactly what the title suggests: a fresh start for a band that has reigned over the K-pop scene both at home and abroad for a decade and a half. It eschews the dense production of their previous records in favor of something a bit sparser; their belted choruses give way to silky falsettos. Jung began conceptualizing the narrative—which charts the rise and fall of a relationship in 11 parts, beginning with the synth-driven “Love Line”—last year, though he and Shim only started working together in earnest on the record two months ago.

TVXQ Talks About Staying Together As Duo For 15 Years + What The Group Means To Them

As TVXQ approaches their 15th anniversary as a group, the two members opened up about their time together and how they had managed to stay together as a duo.

At the comeback showcase for their latest album “New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love” on March 28, Changmin and Yunho discussed what TVXQ meant to each of them.

Changmin remarked, “It wasn’t my dream to become a singer. But when they asked me to dance during my audition, and all I did was clap my hands to the beat, and I passed—I sensed at that moment that this was my destiny.”

“I didn’t go against my destiny, and I’m still working as a singer,” he went on. “I’m thankful for my destiny and consider it incredibly precious, because it’s a job that allows me to share positive emotions with many people. I’m glad that I was able to make many fans happy through that destiny, and I plan to continue with it.”

Yunho commented, “I think we’re past the point where it’s enough to say, ‘I’m a member of TVXQ.’ If you include our training period, I’ve spent more than half my life [with TVXQ]. I want to call it my home.” Continue reading
