just a brief idea of what went on during the 30th of July police exam.
- 6,103 candidates for 480 places. (13:1 competition ratio)
- 30 degrees Celsius heat that day
- Started at about 1.20pm
- Aptitude test; taken seated on the floor, with whiteboards as tables to write on. (the pressure was written as comparable to the suneung – the big korean pre-university placement exam)
- no break and straight onto the fitness test (straight away judged if you’re eligible or not; things like I’m a fitness student, I can do 100 sit-ups; I am a national long-distance runner; I can run well, do not matter)
- at least 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups each in 1 minute; standing broad jump has to exceed 160cm.
- push-ups and sit-ups have to follow the dictation of the supervising officer’s speed; elimination without warning if it’s too fast or slow + if any of the 5 to 6 pointers are not followed (i.e: posture); candidates were being eliminated because of such stringent criteria less than 5 minutes after the start. one of the candidates said that this was his 2nd time attending; on his previous time, during his 18th sit-up, because his back didn’t touch the mat, he didn’t pass. in each group, there are about 7 people; about 2 or 3 are eliminated.

Thanks for this detailed information… Sounds really difficult, hopefully Changmin can get one of the police placements.
