Private First Class Jung Yunho

Private First Class Jung Yunho, who enlisted as a active-duty soldier in July and temporarily put aside “TVXQ U-Know Yunho”, became the surprise publicity poster model and displayed his manly and matured image. How did he come to participate in ‘Camp Reading’, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, sponsored by the Ministry of National Defense and supervised by Book Nanum? Not too long ago, several pictures brought about a big issue amongst netizens, entitled ‘celebs who excites you because they enlisted’. In a red military band uniform, and passionately gave a performance till the extent that his pants tore, the main person in these pictures who has an unmeasurable number of fans all over the world, TVXQ U-Know Yunho.

Back in July, the message the Korean-wave star left to fans and enlisted in the 26th division “not as U-Know Yunho now, but as Jung Yunho with the initial resolution like when i dreamt of being an artist, because i want to start once again and grow (…omitted…) and ill become an increasingly cool monster and return.” He became the ‘squad leader of the recruits’ in the new recruits training center. It is not only because he enlisted later. His tendency to always do his best in whatever he does, and he did his best in the new recruits training center too. As he took the initiatives to set an example to those in the same batch, the younger ones in the same batch were impressed by his lead and all became supporters of him.

The cool soldier from the start, Private First Class Jung Yunho, received the ‘Best Recruit Award’ during the graduation ceremony. “Of course i didn’t have any special treatments, i received all the training and did the tasks more diligently.” Through his effort to lead by example and to eliminate the possible prejudice due to him being a celebrity, U-Know Yunho completed his training in the training center. This is the reason why his remaining period as a soldier is even more anticipated.

“I am very interested in the field of public performance. Before enlisting, as i was searching and watching a variety of army performances, i learnt of the biggest army festival, the Ground Forces Festival. And I became a part of the military band, and was dispatched to the Ground Forces Festival as my first assignment. My original role was an MC, where my enthusiasm in it grew, and i performed in the end too. Really, i was extremely happy to be part of this.”

Private First Class Jung Yunho was assigned to be a part of the military band in the 26th army division. Although his specialty is percussions, in the 나라사랑 concert and local festivals and more, he was involved as a MC or a vocalist.

He said, “as I was only performing on large stages these days, to be able to communicate with the audience closely through such small scale performances, it felt like I went back to being a rookie,” and said “when seeing the enjoyment reflected by the audience, i feel good along with them”.

Back in October, he became the publicity poster model for the camp reading campaign hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, sponsored by the Ministry of National Defence and supervised by Book Nanum. To take part in the meaningful campaign, Camp Reading, with the thought of wanting to actively aid (in this campaign), he readily became the model.

“Since i was a child, i read a lot half-willingly. When i became a celebrity, while taking on the role as a leader of a group, i thought that i need to articulate my thoughts logically. In that sense, reading turned out to help me greatly. Actually, the importance of reading cannot be sufficiently emphasised. Feels really great to be able to play a part in vitalizing the reading campaign for the military personnels.”

On the day of the photoshoot at the Cheongdam branch of Park Jun beauty Lab, the image of Private First Class Jung Yunho together with the military officials involved in their uniforms was fairly impressive. On top of that, his outstanding appearance was transformed to a more confident and manly look after the haircut by Designer Park Jun. The busy movements of the camera shutters of professional photographer Kim Jungman, ernestly verifying the monitor finder in the middle, until the last scene of Private First Class Jung Yunho dressed in active wear, comfortably seated in a chair reading a book… although it’s sad that it’s impossible to put in everything in print (in the magazine), Private First Class Jung, who reads many books habitually, the image of his holding a book is well displayed, tending to a watercolour painting. Although it’s seeing an opposite image of Jung Yunho, who instantly captivates the audience through his powerful dances and songs, the extent of how this miraculously blends with his image brings about the wonder if the charisma he gives off during the days as TVXQ was because of reading.

“Being active as TVXQ for about 10 years, although the friend called U-Know Yunho has grown a lot, the child Jung Yunho in me is still, as it is, holding on to the passion when i was in high school.” He said that although he enlisted at a later age of 30 years old, with the passion he had back then, and the next time he can meet everyone again, he will make the most out of his experiences and know-hows as a member of the military band, and secretly revealing his thirst to want to create splendid performances that can only be done in the army.

The military is not simply military, but i think of it as university in army. When it’s short, it’s short, and when it’s long, it’s long, i want to make the 21 months of military to be the preparation period of another phase of development”.

 

Here, seems like we can imagine the touching instant when the gradually growing Jung Yunho in army meets the world artist TVXO’s U-Know Yunho.
